NotebookLM As A Debate & Public Speaking Coach
I received a request from a subscriber on how to use NotebookLM as a debate coach & public speaking coach:
"Ideas on how to setup a critique of audio presentations? One part of my personal training is to increase my abilities public speaking, inclusive of debate and interviewing, on specific topics. NotebookLM as a debate coach. I also want Notebooks with audio files of spontaneous 20β60-minute raps to be teased into outlines, mindmapped. Sections amended into topic specific Notebooks. Any suggestions on a route through your materials, appreciated."
Here is my answer:
Here's what your question made me think of, starting with how I'd use NotebookLM, and then afterwards, the videos I'd recommend watching:
- Create a note (my preference is in Obsidian) with your key goals on public speaking/debate. Think of this like your "style guide"
- Assemble an array of resources that you think are the BEST lessons/examples of debating/public speaking, and add the links to your Obsidian note.
- Create a new notebook in NotebookLM and add all of the resources you assembled, along with the Obsidian md file of your style guide.
- Chat with NotebookLM to get it to assess the various styles/lessons/examples and make sure that the way its answering your questions aligns with the vision you have with a coach. Save any of the best answers as notes, and then add them as sources to your material. ALSO copy the best answers into a new Obsidian Note that will be the "NotebookLM Coach Style Guide"
- Once you're satisfied, you now have a "template" debate coach notebook. You can then make a new note and add in the same sources, and your Obsidian style guide and NotebookLM Coach Guide.
- Then, begin adding custom topics to each debate coach notebook. Each notebook can become a dedicated debate partner on a specific topic.
- You can use the mind map feature to help you structure your arguments. You can use the Audio Overview feature (with interactive mode) to customize the AI podcast to be a debate coach/make specific arguments. You can use any of the other features to consolidate your arguments/lessons/examples/style into briefing reports that you can review. No end in options! I hope that helps!
Here are some videos that might help with the features I outlined above:
