Public Personal Knowledge Management System

Rather than keeping all of my knowledge private until the moment I am "ready to publish", I am running an experiment to publish ideas, information, and knowledge as I craft them into my notes.

My system is a hybrid Zettelkasten & digital garden system, leveraging a few tiers of writing to organize my trains of thought so I can continue Cultivating Knowledge while taking you along for the ride.

If you don't have time to read the full article on augmented personal knowledge management, here's a primer to get you started:

TL;DR:

The goal of a Personal Knowledge Management system is to move process data --> information --> knowledge --> wisdom:

The key of a public Personal Knowledge Management system is to not only forge my own knowledge & wisdom, but share that knowledge and wisdom with others:

The hourglass shape invokes both Divergence & Convergence: divergently seeking whatever experience intuits inspiration and curiosity and convergently distilling the broad nature of experience anti-entropically - reducing the chaos of Information Overload by making sense of the information (forming knowledge & wisdom).

Finally, a crucial element: sharing the distillation. Publishing, actually pressing publish and sharing your distillation, your forged knowledge & wisdom with the world, takes your expression to the next level. It requires another level of thought, recognizing that the note (fruit) is not for your mind alone, but also for the benefit of any who may come across it.

Contributing to the collective actualization of society, our collective consciousness.

As talked about in πŸ“•Building A Second Brain, the CODE method works well:

Mapping CODE to the above PKM graphic:
Capture = Seeking
Organizing & Distilling = Sensing
Expressing = Sharing

By taking the time not only to capture, organize, and distill, but also to EXPRESS, we open the door to collective benefit: Learning In Public.

A digital garden is an incredible way to boost learning in public, as it significantly reduces the friction of getting to the "publish" phase, the share part of your PKM.

I launched this website only a few days ago, and already I am absolutely shocked at how much of an unlock it's been 🀯.

The ability to toggle a note between private --> public with the press of a button makes publishing to my website frictionless.

Story is humanity's medium through which wisdom is passed down not only to future generations, but also to my future self πŸ‘€
